Has anyone used white nylon thread and epoxy before? Does nylon turn transparent like silk thread?

Thanks,

Sean

Persalls silk thread (white) turns fairly transparent when you use 2 part epoxy , I use it for repairs that I don't want seen . The Bamboo guys use a spar varnish to achieve the real transparent look I believe .
I'm sure you will get some more ideas , Have fun , John

Thanks, John. It is fun. I can't believe that I like rodbuilding more than fishing.

i tried white nylon gudebrod thread on the old teal blue forecast blank color thinking it would go transparent. it didn't completely. in the end, after using flexcoat lite, it looked a bit like masking tape, partially somewhat transparent, otherwise beige. it was my first rod too, so it might have looked better with a better finishing technique, but i later learned it's SILK thread which goes nicely transparent. this "test" of mine was without CP.

Eric,

I won't mess with epoxy after reading your post--you saved me time! I might as well just order the silk, too. BTW: my blank color is similar to your forecast and the transparent wrap seemed like a good idea to me, too. I

Thanks,

Sean

I use white Pearsal's Gossamer Silk to wrap acarfs on bamboo. With MOW red can varnish it is nearly invisible.
