I am looking to build a 4 weight 8"6" fly rod for trout fishing the tailwaters. Really interested in Talon's blanks, does anyone have any feedback that they could offer regarding their Highlander series blanks? Model 864.
Also considering the VI Plus series which is a little cheaper than the Highlander. Model 864. This rod is for my own use and I want to make sure I get this right as far as the action and blank is concerned. Thanks. Tim Re: Talon fly rod blanks: feedback-experience?

Tim,
The Talon Highlander rods I've fished were easy rods to fish. Angler's Workshop will be able to answer any questions you have on Talon blanks. They have been associated with Talon in the production of their in house blanks for many years. Talon is only a few miles from the shop. Give them a call or send them an e-mail, great people to do business with. Spencer Re: Talon fly rod blanks: feedback-experience?

Hello,
I once had a Talon Highlander 9' 5wt 3pc rod that I sold, but wish I hadn't. This is my only experience with Talon blanks/rods, but it was really an excellent rod. It was very smooth & deep flexing during normal fishing/casting, but had quite a bit of backbone & good power for it's flex characteristics. I think the closest rod in action & feel that I've ever used, & I've used a lot of fly rods, was a Sage SP 3pc. Not exactly the same, but very similar, at least with the couple of SP's I've fished, although the Highlander was a little heavier in hand. Still a great rod. Not sure if this helps, but best of luck with your project. Talon makes a nice product. Tom Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
