Which waterslide decal should I go with? They have the regular and now have added a new one? Do you recommend buying a sheet as opposed to one at a time? Should I just get something like "Custom Rod Made By Bruce Tomaselli?" I'd like to personalize the rods by putting the names of the persons I've made them for such as my nephews. Thanks

I personally feel that the customer treasures things on rods that are personal to him. I use his name, his city, his graphics and his personal choice of what to put on the rod. I do not use any personal identifier for my work other than a small Gon Fishn which is put on the back side of the rod. This mean a sheet of decals is not for me. Each is custom and Decal Connection is my ticket to personalizing rods.

I have found that the newer decals from Decal Connection that are made on the newer thicker paper to be much easier to apply than the ones made on the older thinner paper if that is your question.
If you are going to be building quite a few rods the decals are much cheaper if you buy them by the sheet so you might want to consider using a common logo on all of your rods that you can buy by the sheet. Naturally if you want to personalize each rod with the customer's name and you want to use a decal for that you will have to order them individually.

The bigger the decal, the harder it is to handle. So, instead of "Custom Rod Made by ...", just "Custom Made by...". For relatives, I personalize it a bit more with "Built by Uncle Tom", etc., and I get those a few at a time from Decal Connection, the newer kind of waterslides. A few at a time because I won't know until I start building if the name of the recipient and the "Uncle Tom" will be in gold or silver or whatever. The cost of extra shipping/handling is less than having unused slides around, and Jimi is very fast getting them to you.

I used to build scale models and one method we use with waterslide decals is to prep the surface with microsol, set the decal on and dab up the excess water then put microsol over the tol to help "melt" the decal into the details of the models surface. Now instead of a 2 part process like above, what you can do is use a 50/50 mix of set/sol you did both steps at one time. A word of caution with the microsol is the decal will become very soft & fragile so use lots of care to set your decals on right the 1st time.
