I have glued the sand paper strips with rod bond. it is said that the grit can come off??

Also if it does it will scratch the blank if it comes off inside a cork handle

Thank guys I will make one with sand paper and one with rod bond I have made a few with sand paper but I have a bag of grit and would hate to see it go to waste Thanks Again Doug P.S. never thought about grit coming loose in the cork and scratching the blank that would be bad very bad

isn't there a possibility that grit would come off from sandpaper as well?

Doug, I've found that the best epoxies for making reamers is either Devcon 2 ton, or any other slow cure, free flowing epoxy. I tried it with rod bond, but it just didn't work for me. What I do is coat the piece of blank with the epoxy., then stick it in my rod dryer for 10 or 15 minutes, then sprinkle grit on the stick until it's completly covered, and let it rotate until dry. I have gotten the roll of sandpaper from mudhole and have several made up glueing up with rod bond. No problems. I have seen it said that the grit comes off on posts on this board. I have not used it??

I've made two for myself out of the grit. I've used them for over 15 years. I don't use power tools with these, all by hand. I think that the problems that people have with them is when using power tools from what I've read.

When I built these, I used 5 minute epoxy. But first, I spiralled 1/4" masking tape down the blank. Then the glue, then grit, then removed the tape (kind of a barber shop pole effect) ; leaves room for the cuttings.

After first building these, I had some of the grit come loose on the first two or so uses and never after that. Never did scratch a blank, but I was probably lucky, too. After that, I haven't had any trouble. If I was to do it again, I'd use a slower curing epoxy, though. I had to re-do part of the first one that I did right away because the 5 minute had set to the point that the grit didn't bond.

I do need to re-do the one that I use the most; it's just plain dull, now, after all of the reaming it's done for me.
