I posted a few pictures of the fly reel I'm building. After talking about it the other night I decided to do some more work on it, so I started on the spool. At this point I have the frame fully machined and the spool about 75-80% machined. I may have a chance this week to work on it some more. When ever I do get around to working on it I'll be able to finish up the spool in an hour or two. Once the spool is done I'll still have a lot to do, but the biggest/ most time consuming/ most difficult parts will be over.

Once I have this reel finished, I'll be working on a reel for my Dan Craft Sig 3 6'10" 3pc 1 weight!

P.S. Sory for the poor quality of the photos. My cheapo digital camera is not well suited to this particulart task. When I get the reel finished I'll borrow my fathers Nikon and take some better pictures and scan them in.

Mark. That reel for your 1 weight needs to be light, light, light. If you use any hardware on the reelseat you will need a 2 oz. reel. I used a 1 piece kork-a-lon seat and grip and a 2.2 oz magnesium to balance mine. As I posted earlier, there is a new Bass Pro ultralite out that weighs the same. I am glad I do not possess the skills to build reels, I never would have graduated college.

Depending on how hardcore I get with the weight relief I will be anywhere from 1.7-2.3 oz! However I've found that rediculusly light weight reels are a bit overkill. By the time you put a fly line and some backing on the reel and put about 10 feet of line out past the tip top you're not going to feel the difference in a 2 oz and 3 oz reel. And once you start getting closer to 20 feet of line out you'll be glad you had a little extra weight at the back to ballance everything out.

I'll post some solid works 3D renderings of the two versions of the 1 weight reel later today.
