Damaged Ferrel

Is there any way to repair a damaged ferrel. I closed the female end of a #5 blank in the car door as I was bringing it home. It was not totaly crushed, but damaged pretty good. Is it scrap, or can something be done with it?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Klinkerone

What kind of ferrule is it? A tip-over-butt, overlap type? If so, you could re-wrap the female with enough thread to reinforce the barrel and continue up the blank ~ 1cm past the male's full depth. Or even further if there is evidence of damage further toward the tip.

If it is a plug-spigot type ferrule, you may be able to modify the existing plug to fit the new taper you will produce when you amputate the damaged section of the old female. If that seems too drastic a change in diameter and taper, then just re-wrapping the old barrel may get you back on the water.

A metal ferrule may be an option. ... Good luck with the resurrection. -Cliff Hall-
