Yup, first time for everything. I had finished a new 9' 6wt spinning rod for a friend and took it out to knock the new off it (I mean test cast) for him. I have an extended cab 2003 Chevy so the 2 rod pieces were standing vertically behind my drivers seat. When I leaned in to start my truck to warm it up yesterday the top half of the rod must have slid out into the door jam before I closed the door to go back in the house. When I came out to leave for work 10 minutes later and opened my drivers door, there it was. It broke about 6 inches above the ferrule, it's crushed for about 4 inches above that.
Total bummer. Re: OUCH! New rod meet the car door, car door meet the new rod.

Hi Andrew,
I feel your pain, what a bummer!. All may not be lost though, check with the company that makes the blank to see if they have an accidental breakage policy on their blanks, it may save you some money replacing it. At Pacific Bay we have a no-fault accidental breakage po;icy that allows us to replace blanks that have fallen victims to mishaps like yours at a below wholesale price. I'm sure others offer a similar program. Tom S. Brown Pacific Bay International Re: OUCH! New rod meet the car door, car door meet the new rod.

I've done the "car-door trick" also. I got lucky, it was a personal rod, an 8' medium power surf rod. Lost 4" off the tip, re-located the guides, it is now a great medium-heavy rod, I've caught plenty of fish with it. But since then, I have a PVC pipe in my vehicle, and all transported rods go into that. Re: OUCH! New rod meet the car door, car door meet the new rod.

A few years ago I had a Ford escort that had the automatic seat belt thing where the top of the belt slides into position when the door is closed. Of course the tip of the rod was laying in the track. 6 inches gone in a flash. Don't feel bad, it happens to everyone sooner or later. BobVasko Re: OUCH! Yup, two days later and I still can't bring myself to go in the garage and look at the body ... I mean blank. How Ironic is it that less than 24hrs after the incident, a beautiful aluminum rod tube showed up from Bob at H&H!!! My wife asked me, "how come you didn't have it in one of these pretty tubes?" God I love her.
Thanks for thesupport guys - I'm just scared that now that I've done it once .... it's going to happen all the time. Sounds like I'll be ordering a few dozen rod tubes! No more Socks only. Putter - if I did that to my WSM and louie .... I'd be having a Glock for lunch if you know what I mean. Thanks again everybody! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
