I am about to build my first rod, after practicing this winter my wraps and finishes, I am ready. It will be a Sage 596-4 SLT. My question is... Do the white dots on the blank sections have any reference to the spine and/or guide location. I can not find any info on the Sage web page, does anyone have any advice for a new builder?
Thanks, Gary Gill. Re: Sage rod white reference dots

They indicate the straightest axis on the blank, not the effective spine. Most factories, and many custom builders, disregard the spine and put their guides on the straightest axis. Tip and butt up, belly down.

Thanks Tom, since this is a four piece rod, I don't quite understand what you mean by "Tip and butt up, belly down." Sorry, I am still pretty novice at all this stuff.
Thanks, Gary. Re: Sage rod white reference dots

When you assemble the rod, according to their dots, or any one-piece rod, you'll find a natural curve to it. The tip and butt are up, the belly is down. That is the way most commercial makers position the blank for rod making.

Thanks for the info, I will try to look for this natural curve.
