Question for Tom Kirkman-drying motors

I've misplaced my copy of Rodmaker that had the article about the epoxy mixer. I know you mentioned a source for motors and that's what I'm looking for. I've searched the internet, but only found motors that were either <=10 rpm or >=30 rpm.

Thanks

Custom Tackle Supply and FishSticks4U both have good quality 18RPM motors.

Didn't the article mention an internet site that's basically a source for surplus stuff like motors?

Yes, but their supply is spotty - some months they may have something suitable, other months, nothing along those lines. It's a surplus purchase type situation. Had I known earlier about the standard motors that these sponsors stock, I would gladly have mentioned them instead.

@#$%& has a few 20 rpm motors, one is 12 volt gear drive, [] radio shack has a cheap 110 to 12 volt converter. I also found a 20 rpm gear drive in 110 item # is 4320711167 Good luck! I have the 12 volt because my dad already had 12 volt converter works Great for epoxy mixer

Hi Gerry,

I made my mixer with a 7rpm motor and it works great. Just had to play around and get the correct ball bearings. I found that with the 7rpm motor and two 3/8" ball bearings it works great. I have not had a bad batch of epoxy since putting the mixer to work. I really don't think you have to be set on an 18rpm motor. Good Luck

Thanks to all. I'm particularly glad I don't have to spend $60+ just to get an 18rpm motor and that I can use slower ones.

You can, but don't be upset if you don't get perfect results. I'm glad Hank is managing with his 7 RPM motor, but in the 20 years I've been messing with these and the folks that once made the commercially produced models, 18 RPM is the optimum speed for the time frame mentioned in the article.

Whatever motor and speed you get, do the test outlined in the article before actually using a batch on a good custom rod. The best surprise is no surprise when it comes to finishing.

After wasting a significant amount of time looking on the internet and @#$%& for motors, it turns out FishSticks had just the right thing for $6.22. That's hard to beat and great people to boot.
