Date: January 31, 2005 03:57PM i have never used color preserver, but since i'm only a beginner, that's no surprise. i have some on order but still await its arrival (gudebrod). i've gathered from recent postings that color preserver is used not only for maintaining the color characteristics of thread, but can also be used as a temporary glue, as in holding down fidgety trim wraps and tie off loops. i've also gathered that CP, applied to thread creates a surface which, when dry, allows someone to then do an overlying layer of thread (not necessary but helpful for moving the top layer together). are both of these ideas correct? how else is CP used? and do all brands of CP share the same traits? thanks, from another newbie eric fresno, ca. Yes, you're on the right track. Two main types of CP's - the straight acrylics which are white and very easy to use, and the acrylic/urethanes that are cloudy-clear and give the best color retention. Gudebrod 811 is in the latter family.

CP's are also used, along with some other products, for laying feathers down in some inlays. Re: color preserver characteristics
