Ole' Dummy here again, I was wanting your guys opnions about "CORK SEAL", do it or not do it, reasons why and why not, I don't want to skip an important step buy not applying the seal.
I would also like to know the time you wait after finishing a rod before you would recommend using it.
Thanks Richard

I've used cork seal on all my grips, which have all been reguar cork. I have some of Andy Dear's burl cork and plan to use Tung Oil on that. Cork seal seals the cork so dirt won't penetrate and make it look nasty. It's cheap and it helps protect the cork so there's no reason not to use it. Besides, using cork seal is a lot easier than sanding down the grip every year if the rod gets a lot of use.

As far as when you can use the rod after putting on the last coat of finish, I always wait at least three days before I even put it in the rod bag and I save the last batch of epoxy so I can stick my finger or some hard objet into it to test it . When I can't dent it with my fingernail, I wait another 24 hours before it goes in the bag.

Good advice from Gerry, Richard.

If you've never put cork seal on before, just wipe it on with your finger. I use a nitrile glove just 'cause I don't like the 'silicone-like' stuff I have to wind up picking off my finger. As soon as you've wiped it on, grab a clean paper towel and wipe off all the excess. Then set it aside to dry.

What the cork surface has accepted after wiping is all that is needed and is all that will do any good. Any more than this or second coats are unneccessary unless you missed a spot. This will remove any sharpies that the user would feel and gives the sealed cork a better feel in hand, too.

Thanks a bunch guys, It wouldn't been rather expensive to find out everything if you guys hadn't been out there and been willing to help. Thanks again, Richard
