Shaping Roller Guide Feet?

I plan to mount a set of Stuart Roller guides to my rod. The feet are contoured on the bottom and lay perfectly on the blank. However they are quite thick. Do you recommend gringing them down? Would it be better to grind the top of the foot so as not to change the contour? Re: Shaping Roller Guide Feet?

I use a File to shape the guide feet, taper the tip down so it is a easy ramp to wind the thread up to the guide. I also taper the sides to make a smoother wrap Re: Shaping Roller Guide Feet?

Yes, grind of file the ends to a more shallow taper. Re: Shaping Roller Guide Feet?

Are you recommending grinding the bottom of the foot or grinding the top of the foot? It seems if I grind the bottom I risk changing the contour. Re: Shaping Roller Guide Feet?

Martin I only meant file the top! You might have to use a Round file to touch up the bottoms.
Make sure you remove any burrs or sharp edges before you wrap Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
