OK, a few questions for the masses.
Bubbles in my CP over buttwraps are bothering me, to put it mildly. Can I use Flexcoat epoxy over Gudebrod 811 CP? Although I know the bubbles in CP are easily popped while applying, what is the best way to avoid them? I have been using Flexcoat CP. Is Colorlock better or just different? I have seen posts regarding Varathane Crystal Clear. Anybody have any experience with it? Does it maintain the color of the thread as good as Flexcoat? Thanks, Larry Re: Bubbles In CP

Best way is not to create them to begin with. Never shake the bottle of color preserver as that just makes bubbles. Then use your brush like a sponge to apply the stuff to the wraps. Don't brush back and forth like you're painting a house or you'll just cause more bubbles. Hope this helps. Re: Bubbles In CP

How long does the 811 take to dry, or at least, how long shoud I wait before coating 811 with flexcoat?

I drug this up using a search on "Drying Time".
Putter Posted by: Tom Kirkman (---.152.54.240.Dial1.Atlanta1.Level3.net) Date: November 20, 2004 09:51AM I use only one application, a pretty heavy one. I put on enough so that the threads turn uniformly dark (they come back up once dry) but not so much that the stuff runs and sags on me. Don't brush it around - it tacks up fast. Load your brush, hold it above the wrap, lower it to the wrap, revolve the rod 360 degrees underneath it. Dip the brush in more 811, move over one brush width, and repeat. If you choose to use 2 applications of 811, a few hours apart, you won't hurt anything. I generally wait at least overnight before applying finish. Re: Bubbles In CP

I don't know if anyone else does this but I use flexcoat CP and I put it on pretty heavy to make sure it soaks in and I remove excess with my fingers. It does take care of any bubbles. I'll stop shaking the bottle now ;) Re: Bubbles In CP

Varathane Crystal Clear Diamond, blue can, is the best color preserver I have found. It will give you "off-the-spool" thread color. Re: Bubbles In CP

Steve, where can I find Varathane Blue Diamond Crystal? I tried a local hardware store and they did not have any.
Thanks, Larry Re: Bubbles In CP

Any place that has paint should carry it. Below is the website store locator. It looks like the website is now Rust Oleum, must of been a change of owner ship. I live in a small town with a small ACE hardware and they have it. An 8 oz can will last forever if you are just going to use it as a color preserver, about $3.00/ 8 oz. I use it for all kinds of wood working projects as well as a cp for rod wraps.
[www.flecto.com] opps, sorry the link has my address so just type yours in Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/30/2005 05:41PM by Bob Crook. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
