Hi George--I assume you're referring to the 2004 (and prior) model, not the new line of RX8+ blanks? (For one, the new lineup is only 4wt and above.)
Anyway, the RX8 Xcel is a really nice fast-action blank with excellent rate of recovery/damping. That model in particular feels incredibly light in hand and casts a 3wt line with more authority than about any blank I've encountered--but it's not ridiculously overpowered...just a nice, crisp blank. FYI, as I would assume you're aware, this blank and it's fellow RX8's have been discontinued by Rainshadow (Batson), so you should be able to get it for a great price. We just brought in a number of the discontinued RX8's and as we were inventory-ing them I was impressed again at what a great blank they are/were, and at the current prices, what an incredible value for a high-performing stick. I would caution you that this blank does not have the tip forgiveness and therefore tippet protection you may be used to or looking for in a light line-weight rod. That's thanks primarily to it's high-mod graphite and overall design that creates the great damping, line speed, and distance in the first place! If you think this is the right blank for your needs and haven't found a source for it yet, we'd be happy to prepare a quote for you. One way or the other, be sure to let us know what YOU think once you've got it! Warmly, Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
