Rainshadow and St. Croix Decal Question
Posted by: Scott Hunt (---.arcadis-us.com)

I am currently building 2 rods (a Rainshadow and a St. Croix) that both came with rod specs./brand name decals from the manufacturers. I have only used the holographic fish decals from Mudhole to date (the ones that have the fish decal "sandwiched" between two layers of film). Do the St. Croix and Rainshadow decals install like/similar to the fish decals? Any tips?

Thanks!

Scott Hunt

Thank you!

I just finished an SCII, that decal was a peel & stick. You may want to use tweezers, or somthing other than your fingers to handel it-- it will pick up finger prints like flies to fly paper.

I have used many St Croix decals. Use something flat to hold your sticker. I use a razor blade. Make sure it is clean. Slide the blade under one corner of the decal and lift. The decal should lift off the backing. Pull off until it gets close to being removed from the backing. Place on blank and pull off the rest of the backing. I use a burnishing tool to press onto the blank starting from the center working toward the long edge. Repeat on the other half. Some very small bubbles may occur. Should not be many. I overwrap the entire decal with A size thread. This removes any bubbles and allows the decal to conform to the curve of the blank. Let sit overnight. Once you finish, it will be very hard to see the edges.

Kevin,

From what you wrote, I am assuming that you are wrapping over the decal just to remove the bubbles, leaving it overnight and the removing the thread? And then are finishing over the decal?

Scott,
That's what I get for writing at work. You've got it. Even if I don't have any bubbles, I do it anyway. I would hate to have the decal lift while the color preserver was drying.
Hope this helps....Kevin
