I'm refinishing a fiberglass flyrod which was purchased as a blank from the Russ Peak shop in Pasadena, CA back in 1954. Have removed the old varnish by scraping with a blade. Seems to be quite clean. Before I apply Permagloss should the blank be smoothed? Perhaps fine steel wool? How many coats of Permagloss? Thanks for any help. Re: Refinishing an Old Friend

Read the article in the library on surface preparation and you'll be fine.
Probably only two applications of Permagloss will suffice. You'll do better by wiping it on than trying to brush it. ........ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
