Have any folks experimented using REC RSPG single foot spinning guides on a fly rod?
Perceived advantages: LIGHTWEIGHT (4-5 times lighter than ceramics) would allow for greater rod efficiency over ceramics or snakes, the INCREASED GUIDE HEIGHT might help reduce line slap allowing for increased shootability, or not. I was thinking of using an SiC tip top and SiC stripper and fill in the rest of the guides with RSPGs. I'm interested in rod performance so cosmetic appearance is not a factor. I plan on building a rod to cast 6-10 inch pike and musky flies on a 9 wt rod that won't be too hard on the wrist or tip heavy and still shoots line well.

Any thoughts on this idea of thinking outside the bun?
If you think this is absurd, I would appreciate the critical analysis.

Mark - Since your fly rod is a full 9 wt, the advantage of the lesser weight of Recoil guides verse SiC ring guides may be over-ruled by the superior reputation of SiC guides for smoothness, "shooting", and quietness. I can't speak first-hand on this subject. But I suspect that those who can would include such a comparison in their reasoning and advice. ... Cliff has it right. The performance of the ceramic rings outweighs (literally and figuratively) the RECs. With a heavy rod the lightness of the guides is much less a factor. Now using all sngle foot TATSGs or the new Titan spinning guides might be interesting. Tom K has indicated in the past that having spinning guides the length of the rod is not useful, although I don't know why not. Perhaps there is no line slap that close to the tip.
