First spinning rod, need help on guides and blank

Guys,
My friend would like me to build a spinning rod for his father as a 60th b-day present. I have only built fly rods and don't know much about the blanks and guides out there for spinnig gear. he would like a longer rod 7'6"-8', medium - medium light action that he could use for walleye (casting plugs and jigs) in Michigan and for small redfish and sea trout in FLA during the winter.

Cost isn't a huge deal and he'd like to make it a special gift so I need some direction on how best to spend his cash. Any recommendations would be a huge help. Thanks a lot!!!
Steve

St. Croix has a nice SCIII 7'6" MF blank, and three SCII blanks in the 7'6"-8' range, all medium power, two fast and one moderate action. I don't know of any ML power blanks in these lengths. I would definitely build the spinning rod using the new concept system, and I would use Fuji Alconite or SiC guides for this. Many of the sponsors could set you up with what you need. For the butt guide size, you will need to know the size of the reel that would be used.

My vote would also be for the St. Croix or Rogue blank. If possible, you should get the reeal that will be used so you can properly set up the Concept system (per the Library above, NOT Fuji's set up) If you really want to make it special, consider a custom wood seat insert, butt cap, trim rings. Talk to Andy Dear (Lamarr reelseats) on the left.
Where in Michigan!!

Mike
