Tom,
In regards to casting/spinning rods, over the last several years many of the rod companies have been marketing technique specific rods. My question is what makes a certain power/action rod more favorable for one technique versus another? As an example, why would MH/M rod be better for crankbaits versus a H/F rod? I guess what I am trying to get at is this: If somebody asked me to build a rod for them that was to be used for basically one technique, how to you go about suggesting a power/action for that technique and why? I'd ask them how much weight they normally cast and what they intend to do with the rod. What is their average size fish? What size line? There are a host of things you'd want to know and only then could you select something for a specific purpose. Even then, you're going to have to be very familar with any specific technique in order to understand what the fisherman requires for it.
