Just curious, but I might buy a couple if the price is right (And by right, I mean offensive to the seller). I saw
one at an antique store, but it was already built, and beat on, and the price was offensive to me.

Naw, I just want the blank. I mean, It would be fun to tinker with. Anyone remember how they fished? And how come everyone elses posts come out all neat and tidy, and mine look like some drunken haiku? Am I hitting return and lousing up the process? I remember a steel rod my mother had back in the early 50's. About 7 1/2 feet long. I think it was supposed to be a fly rod. May have even been a telescoping rod. Dad hung a cheep little South Bend reel on it for worm dunking. I used it from time to time fishing for blue gills off of docks and under boats in our neighborhood. Heavy with no real action. And of course, it did not float as I found out one time at the end of a dock. Required stripping down to my bathing suit and diving for a while to retrieve Mom's rod. No redeeming angling qualities that I can remember. Some things are best left in the past.

My stepdad gave me an old two piece steel fly rod when I was in high school. I think it was somewhere between 8 and 9 feet, 9 I think. It was the most god awful thing. Weighed a ton, and was really hard to cast. I now have his old Montague 3 piece 9' cane rod. It casts better than the steel rod, but it weighs about as much. I wouldn't take one of those things if someone offered to give it to me for free.

I just restored a 5 1/2' square steel rod. I don't know how you could fish it It was a casting rod, heavy as.... and had only 3 guide and tip. With any load on it, the line would have been below the blank because of the distance between the guides. It was a reall buggy whip. You could darn near tie a knot in it! The owner learned to fish with it when he was a kid (It was his grandfathers) It was a unique looking rod and was going to make a nice wall hanger

Fish with it???? No Way!!
