Denatured alcohol will work. Even Rubbing alcohol.

OK, somebody has to ask, how did your grandson and his dog take care of your FC brush cleaner?

I have quit cleaning brushes...just buy cheap ones and toss them when done. I found the time involved in properly cleaning a brush, plus the cost of thinner or brush cleaner was not worth the trouble.

With years of painting, art school and work in a high end art supply house in my past; I am enamored of fine brushes. That said I still tend to be rough on my brushes. After using the usual chemicals I tried U40 BRUSH CLEANER. It does a far better job than anything I have ever come across...including the very costly Winsor & Newton offering. It is a bit pricey if you squander it, but it does not take much to clean the small nylon brushes I use for rod building. One 4 ounce bottle lasts me a few months. This product is amazing and well worth the expense IMHO.
