Hello all. My sons bought me the Cabelas Professional Rod Wrapper for Christmas. I am just getting to setting it up, and I was wondering if anyone else had this unit and what they may have done to make it better. I was very pleased to recieve the wrapper, but I like to change things more to my liking from time to time.
I put softer springs in the rod hold down rollers. That was a huge improvement. I am going to make an adapter so I can use my bbq grill motor, since it is not capable of being used to dry rods as delivered. They bought the extra kit with the sewing machine motor, so I can make my own cork grips and power wrap, but its too fast to use for drying. I am hoping to have it done by the weekend. Anyone else have one of these? Results? Regrets? Ideas? Thanks. Jess Re: Cabelas Professional Rod Wrapper

Jesse, I have the hand wrap model , I put some new wheels on mine they have them at {FishSticks4U } when you enter the site go to {Tools / Wrappers} then go to {Wrapping Machines and Parts} you want part # WRAP11 this is a great ball bearing wheel with O ring tire, To install tap out the pin for the top arm remove the old wheel, {Glue the 2 arms together with epoxy } the old wheel hole is to big, I found some inserts at ACE that had the {same hole size as the new wheel} I epoxied them in the old hole. get some metric screws-nuts that fit the new wheel , mount the wheel on the side of the arm, Before you remount the top arm get a few 1/4'' washers use 2 on each side of the arm and tap pin back in this will take out some of the side to side SLOP that came with your wrapper. Do the same to other side. Remove the 4 bottom wheels drill out the holes just a {bit larger to take the thread out} then slot them horizontally maybe 3/32'' with a Dremal, use metric screws and nuts to mount the new wheels adjust a bit so they don't touch each other. Thats It !! much nicer to work with and no hard wheels to mark up your blank, It also will hold a smaller Blank or tip. I also drilled and tapped the {rod plates that have the felt rests} and put in a thumb screw in the front so I can LOCK down both sides Makes it much sturdier. Like you I have also put softer springs in the Top arm. And may do the same for the thread tension as I use 1oz spools. Next I need to get the slop out of the the thread setup. Mine wobbles all over!!!! I may just make one out of some walnut and add thread tensioner as needed. Jay
