Stained Blank

I recently removed the guides, cork handle, and reel seat from a rod I was given. I intend to re wrap it with nice grips and guides.
The old guides were wrapped with blue thread, and there is a blue stain in the clearcoat on the blank where the guides were. Is there any way to get this stain out of the clearcoat?
The original guides were all double foot, and I want to use single foot guides, so it will be hard to hide the stains.

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,a good automotive polish like Meguiars might be the answer. If all else fails, try a Scotchbrite pad. A word of caution here, stay away from strong chemical solvents as they can do irreparable harm to the blank. Also, should you be tempted to use sandpaper or something similar,go easy with them.Use only the finest available, something like 600 or better. I think the best results will come from the car polish though. Take your time, don't rush it,and good luck.

You can strip the blank bare using Strip-eeze and Scotchbrite pad. But as I understand your question you want to save the clearcoat.

Yes, I would like to save the clearcoat.
The stain looks like a transparent blue, and only where the thread was. Where the guide foot tunnels were is still clear.
I have something called "Glissen Hull Magic" that I use on my boat to remove stains. It works well on the white fiberglass. I'm going to give it a shot.
I could sand it down and use Permagloss to re coat it if I have to I guess, but I have not recoated one yet, so I don't know what to expect there.

Well, if anyone is interested, the Glissen did not work. Works great on the boat, though.
I even tried a little steel wool and scotchbrite, the stain is in the clearcoat all the way to the blank.
