Noel, I always use a single foot fly guide no. 10 and no. 8 after a double foot no. 12 guide.

IMO, single foot guides are the only way to go with spiral wrapped rods! I have built off shore rods to the 60# class with single foot guides. The best way to keep the unsprung weight down and the interity of the action. Re: Spiral wrap / single foot guides???

I'd sure recommend Rich's locking wrap, especially on those buggers stickin' out to the side. Rod lockers would be tough on 'em, otherwise.

The only rods I personaly would not consider use single foot guides on is the "middle" of the road boat rod blanks. 20-50# blanks which might see some abuse - there aren't single footers made which will fit this type of fishing. Regular L or UN single foots are too light, the LV single foots I personaly do not like, and the LD's are too heavy for these rods. Heavy duty single foot boat guides!

Hey Billy, I beg to differ, Angler's Resource is now supplying the new Fuji LSBGKs, LBSG with stainless steel frames! I have built Acid rods to 60# class and DaveB has built a 765M for 80# with LBSGs. Re: Spiral wrap / single foot guides???

Jim - I should've went one step further. 20-50# rods for me = Calstar L-H where I'm using MN frames. Unless the LSBGk's are much lighter frame-wise than the LDBSG's (these are the same as the BLBLG's no?), I would stick with MN10's for the running guides. For me these guides are better for the heavier rods 60-80# tht you & Dave wrapped, not teh lighter stuff I'm referring to.
In either case, each person does things their own way, best way to figure it out is to try everything once and determine what you like best yourself. Re: Spiral wrap / single foot guides???

I been dinking a little here and there and I would go Forehan Locking and a real good placement if you are working the single footers hard.
Tight wraps and lines, Wylie Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
