I just finished a diamond wrap using sulky metalic thread and it looks great! Question: should I use color preserver or is it not necessary with metallic thread? By the way, I enjoyed working with the sulky much more than the HT; it had less of a tendency to unravel.

Probably not necessary but I use it to at least tack down the diamonds (I usually do all of the thread It helps me keep the thread in place and stops there "drifting" when the finish goes on. Sometimes threads will "stretc"h when they are wet. I think a coat of CP helps eliminate this and allows you to push any stray threads into place

CP is not required on metallics. If you use a milky colored CP, such as Flex Coat, it will dull the shine a bit, but with the clear ones, no worries. As Mike said, it doesn't hurt, especially on an open wrap. Put it on and if the threads start to separate, you can move them back into position when the CP gets tacky and it will help hold them in position. Beats watching your buttwrap spread apart when you put on finish.

If you don't want to use CP you can tack the thread together with Permagloss. it dries fast and you can push any threads back together with it. Then put your clear on
