I've never been able to get the modulus ratings on any of G Loomis's blanks. I'd suspect this to be in the low 30's, though.

I don't remember where I read it but I believe that the gl3 blanks are around 43,000,000 modulus graphite. I have built and fished quite a few of them and they are pretty light with mod/fast-I realize this is subjective- action. I don't want to change your mind (i really like Loomis blanks) but Rainshadow and Dan Craft blanks are also worth a look. I now use my rods built on Loomis blanks as back ups for the two I mentioned. The Dan Craft SIG V 9' #5 is a sweet blank and very light - you can't beat the price or Dan's service. Re: loomis gl3 fly blanks

Nice enough blanks, but the blanks Dustin mentioned, St Croix, All Star, and American Tackle I think are a better value. Usually straighter blanks also. Spencer Re: loomis gl3 fly blanks

They are 43 mil , and I just gave finished one for a christmas gift to give .They are nice blanks , and I would take the above advice above to look around also . I do like them , but if you like truely fast rods look at Dans Sig V , or FTs . I'm not knocking Loomis in any way , I fish 3 of them for now , 'till my FT is finished that is .

I'm frankly surprised that the GL3 is that high of modulus. I've fished with several for walleye and frankly, they aren't very good for transmitting the subtle bite.
I've researched a lot on this and have never found where G Loomis would post what the modulus was on any of their rods??? Kind of interested in how anyone found this information. I just gave up and figured that they would not release it for some reason??? Putter Re: loomis gl3 fly blanks

If the modulus ratings of the gl3 is that of 43 mil modulus does anyone know what the glx would be( i am lucky to have a few of these to build onto)
Any info as to the background of loomis blanks would be apreciated. Having recently built a 9 ft6 in St Croix SC1V and a dan craft i am quite interested in the technical stuff. But do you think the fish know the differance? Thanks all.... Re: loomis gl3 fly blanks

Jon, I built the exact rod that you speak of gl3 9ft 5 wt this spring and fished it all summer/fall. Very light weight and I agree with the rest that it is a moderate fast rod. Nice blank but there are equal rods for much less cash. I also built the gl3 8'6" 5 wt and like it a lot, but I fished it one day going back and forth between it and a rainshadow rx7 8'6" 5 wt that I had built and if blind-folded I would have had a very difficult time telling them apart other than the gl3 was a touch faster in the tip and I do mean only a touch. It's getting more and more difficult to accept the added cost for such a slight difference in performance. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
