Fuji Ferruled Seat

THere's only one topic in the Archives which deals with this particular seat, and there's probably enough info for me to get by, but I'll ask anyhow.

I'm contemplating making an 8-8 1/2' travel rod for bottomfishing, possibly a GUSA 85 Monster Mag, or maybe extending a GUSA SW70H. Obviously, I have to either cut the blank to glue this on, or find a piece to make the extension on teh shorter rod. How do I know if the seat & ferrule plug thingy will fit? Will there be any chance of it breaking?

After my last abomination by American Airlines temporarily loosing my Bazooka - I'm going to be shipping my rods 2 weeks before I travel. The shorter the better & maybe even safer.

I have one of the 22mm ones on the desk in front of me as I am typing this. It is basically a Fuji DPS22 reel seat with a piece of graphite glued to the inside of it to give it more strength. It also has a stainless pin fixed inside the reel seat in the middle for the ferrule to lock against. The ferrule is just like a metal ferrule only made of graphite. The blank is glued down inside it and then when joined to the reel seat the two pieces of blank butt up to each other. The inside diameter of the ferrule is about 17.5mm and the reel seat 19.25mm if that helps any. I don't know if there's any exact way to know if it will fit or not because it depends on where you cut the blank you plan on using. I'm using the one I have to make a 6' blank into a ~7.5' rod. The reel seat appears to be pretty strong with the graphite inside, but I don't know how strong the link between the two pieces will be. I would say that I think it will work fine for 30# tackle maybe even heavier but I don't know.

Hi Billy, I've used the same reel seat mentioned for long 80lb class spin sticks and it held up fine. I'm using the rod for Ulua plugging... no idea how my rod builder fitted the two pieces but no problems so far.
