finish wraps only?

Hi all, I'm new at rodbuilding & finished wrapping my first rod (not too bad for my first attemt) My only question is, do you finish the wraps only or finish the blank between the wraps also? I have a 6 custom rods, seems like a few of the lighter rods just have the wraps coated. Does the finsh stiffen the blank? I'm finshing a 15lb casting rod. This a great site. Thanks in advance for helping a novice, Randy

You only need to apply finish to the actual wraps (on the guides. On Butt wraps, you want to apply finish to the entire length of the wrap)

I use two part epoxy rod finish on the wraps. I don't recommend ever using this on a blank.
If the blank is unfinished, it's really up to the builder if he/she wants to finish it or not. This should be done with a urethane type finish like Trondak's Permagloss and is much easier to do before wrapping the guides.
Personally, I like the look of matte, unfinished blanks.

Usually it is best to only finish the wraps, to avoid adding weight to the rod and affecting performance.
