Date: January 05, 2005 05:07PM I am building a 6 weight Loomis rod and would like to use Struble D-2 or D-27 down locking seat. I have a concern that the slip ring may not hold my reel, Hardy LRH, in place. Has anyone used a slip ring seat on a 6 weight rod? I like the simplicity of the seat but could go to a another seat for better function. Re: struble slip ring seat on 6 weight rod

personally i like the look of the struble D20. i think i would prefer to have the screw locking seat on a six wt. they have nice fine threads as well. also, the LRH is a pretty light reel and the screw lock seat may balance a six wt rod better due to its additional weight. the inserts from struble come in .420 bore size in this seat which may be what you need on a six wt blank. Hello Larry,
Thanks for taking the time to tpye up your advice. I appreciate your efforts. I do agree that the D=20 is very, very nice and I agree with the idea of a little more weight to balance the rod. Thanks again Will Re: struble slip ring seat on 6 weight rod

Actually, if you're thinking of using a very heavy reel on the rod, a slip ring might not be an awful idea for the very reason of balance. Then again, it would be a little odd to have a ring reelseat and a big ol' large arbor reel from an aesthetic standpoint...

Not to worry about holding the seat, it will work quite well. Also don't consider "adding weight to balance the rod". You want the rod to be light in the butt! Cast the rod without the reel in place and you will see what I mean. Use can use well-designed sliding rings on any line wt. rod! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
