was wondering how white guide wraps without CP would look on a graphite fly rod. I believe some bamboo builders use it to make the guides look like they are "floating" on the blank.

If you use white or mostly any color with out color preserver or NCP thread, the thread will become the as dark as the blank. Most bamboo builders use white silk without color preserver for the invisible look.

You can put the thread on the butt section of the blank before the handle and seat are on, to see what it looks like. You can also make up a color stick with pieces of scrap blanks with and without CP this way you know just what they look like

I used it on a Batson 5 wt. Fly rod and the white becomes transparent. You can see the guide feet. I is like a "clear cloud" but the rod color does come through. One very interesting thing I did was use pearl metallic for the ferrule with no CP and got internal reflections of the rod color. Very interesting effect. I suggest you try it on the butt like Bill suggested. Size A thread is recommended for this. I got the idea from Tom Kirkman on this site. He posted about it a few weeks ago.

i used gudebrod white nylon thread (not NCP) on the old forecast blue color for my first "test" rod build. being my first, i didn't lay the flex coat down as evenly as i could have i imagine. in the end, the white nylon looked kind of like masking tape. i don't like it. then i realized people got the transparent look more by using silk than nylon thread. that rod is my closet rod more than anything else.

you need to use white silk, not nylon. the nylon will have a "trace" and not go totally transparent. looks kind of lacy. silk will go transparent and be unseen. go to the golden witch website. i think there is some discussion there about this effect.
