Anyone familiar with this lathe?

Turncrafter PRO Midi Lathe Code: TCLPRO

I am unsure as to what chucks I will need and, if this would be a good choice.

Thank you

You're going to get a lot of responses to this one. If you do a search, you'll get a lot of answers. I have a Turncrafter Pro with the extension. Chuck-Mini 3-jaw, #C3J-4. Also, 1/2" Drill chuck #TM32. I got the 3 piece Chisel set #LCPM3. The whole setup, with shipping, was $350.00. I love mine. I know a lot of others do, too. Good luck!

Thank you Fran. Those are the chucks I was looking at but just wanted to make sure. Finally, after 2 years of mulling this over, tonight I'm going to order!

Thanks again

Neil,

I don't know anything about the lathe except what has been said on this board. For the most part it has gotten good reviews. As far as the chuck goes I bought the C3J and found that metal in the jaws were very soft and damaged very easly. The chuck was a litle supect when the instructions said to file the jaws before using. There are better chucks out there but they cost more.

Well, I just placed my order so now I'm committed to the C3J chuck. This is my first lathe - I'll have a lot to learn. No doubt I'll be doing more damage to the wood than whatever chuck I get - at first anyway.

You'll love it!! I really like mine. Now you need to click on the Lamarr Reelseats link on the left and order Andy Dear's new DVD on turning reel seats, butt caps and all around use. Great DVD
Did you get the extension bed? Can't beat the price.

Mike

I got a CJ3-4 chuck a year ago and it seems to work fine. There were no insturctions about filing down the jaws, so maybe the jaws were pre-machined as an improvement. I use it on a Jet lathe.

Agree with Hank - there are much better chucks available, but at a much higher price tag.
