Any opinions as to preference of an uplocking or downlocking reelseat on a 9' or 9-1/2' 9 wt fly rod that feels tip heavy when using ceramic ring guides?
My guess is the downlocking reelseat will move the wt of the reel more toward the butt end and act as a counterweight and make the rod and reel feel more balanced? Any thoughts? Mark Re: up or down reelseat on tip-heavy 9 wt. rod?

Put the reel on it with 30 ft of flyline out the tip and then decide. May be perfectly balanced or need some adjusting.

I prefer the uplocking r/s --- keepl it higher, helps keep the reel out of the muck. Re: up or down reelseat on tip-heavy 9 wt. rod?

No way I want a downlocking on a rod that is going to carry a big, heavy reel. I love downlocking and use them exclusively for 6 wt and down. But having the reel a long ways from the hand makes casting the rod harder, because you have to fight the increased rotational momentum of the reel too. I would use a uplocking on a 9 wt and try to get the reel very close to the casting hand. I can't imagine that static balance means much when fishing with a 9 wt. It is mostly sight fishing and a lot of casting and stripping, not much standing there getting a "drift" like on a trout stream. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
