Technical question on CC initial setup.

I've read Dr. Hanneman's article on the CC system several times and on initialy leveling the grip (for an already built rod) one could use a penny to shim the butt end level. If I were going to measure the ERN of a 9' rod, I know I have to deflect the rod 36" - and if the weight of the rod with it's components sags for example 1 1/2", I only have to really deflect it another 34 1/2".

So to make things simple, I mounted the butt holder perfectly level 60" off a level floor and using a yard stick, I add enough pennies to deflect the rod until the tip is 24" off the floor. But if the rod has a full wells grip that is 1 1/8" in diameter, the exact center of the level rod butt would actually be 60 9/16" off the ground. Would I still deflect the rod tip to within 24" of the floor or only to
24 9/16"?

9/16" doesn't sound like much but I've found it takes a considerable amount of pennies to go that last little bit. Thanks.

You would go to 24 9/16". All the best to you and yours.

Tim,
If I understand your question, the rod should be deflected from the reference point that is the center line of the rod not from the edge of the grip. At the tip the measurements for both power and action angle should also be from the center line of the rod tip as well.

Exactly, use the rod blank centerline at the butt as your starting point.

Hello,
I have never read Dr. Hanneman's article on the CC system. I am not even sure what the CC system is. After reading the posting by Tim and the responses by others I feel there is a need to know both what the CC system is and where I would be able to find this and additional information on this subject.
I am new to the world of rod building and as well as building a rod that looks pretty I also need to be ensured that I am doing everything possible to build the best working rod possible.

Thank you and please do email me if you have any information that would help me on this subject.

Happy New Year
David

The articles are in the Volume 6 RodMakers, or you can get a compilation of the aritcles for $4 by mailing to:

CCS Compilation
RodMaker Magazine
PO Box 1322
High Point, NC 27261

The compilation was done so that those who wanted just the CCS articles wouldn't have to order 4 ot 5 magazines just to get the CCS information.
