Good morning,
I did not want to jump in on the post below regarding what is acceptable for blank straightness, so here is my question. I recently received a fly blank (8'6") from a well respected sponsor to the left. When i put the blank together the tip section seems to be off by an inch or two. Let me say that I am definitely not an expert on sighting the straightness of blanks, but comparing to other blanks i have bought it doesn't seem as straight. I took the sections one by one and rolled them on a hard , flat surface to see if there was any wobble, and there was not a noticeable amount on any of the sections. Could there be an issue with the ferrule on the tip section, or is what i'm seeing normal for a fly blank? I understand that from Tom's statements that a totally straight blank is rare, so am i being too sensitive? Thanks, and Happy New Year! Carrington Re: straightness of blank-revisited

If the ferrule is off, then I would consider returning it. Sight down the assembled blank and see it that's where the problem might be. I have seen instances where ferrules were crooked and sent the tip off at a bad angle.
2 inches on a blank of that length would seem excessive to me. ........... Re: straightness of blank-revisited

i once received one of the three piece lamiglas honey colored blanks with spigot ferrules. one of the ferrules was set crooked. i returned it to lamiglas and they sent me a new one. sometimes these things get past inspection. you are the final step in quality control. Carrington,
If you purchased that blank from me, please return it for replacement. Those blanks are warranted against defects and there will be no problem. If you have built on it, send the complete rod back and I will attempt to refit sections to make it right. If you ever have a problem in the future of this type please contact me first. This thread illustrates why I enjoy the craft of rodbuilding. A "customer" asked a very specific question and did not slam a supplier. The "supplier" identified himself, when he did not have to, to the entire board and showed how he values his customers. I have not done any business with Dan Craft because I do not build fly rods but his answer shows his "class". I wish I could find a boat dealer that would treat me in that manner!!

Very well said Bill!
I myself have also not done business with Dan for the same reasons, but I will in the future if I am asked to do a fly rod. Carrington, great question and tact. I've never come across this problem so this was a new thing to keep in mind in the future. Dan, Great form! I may have to get with you soon on some possibilities for a spin rig for crappie.
