Cork Drilling Clamp & Madeira Poly Neon Thread

In the buy and sell section there is a cork clamp listed for sale. Has anyone used one like it before? Seems like a great idea, much better than reaming them by hand. Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks
John

I invented one particular type of cork drilling clamp. Plans were in the Volume 1 #5 RodMaker if you want to make your own, or you can buy one ready made from Andy Dar at Lamar Reel Seats.

My clamp featured "hands-off" operation for safety, and generally allows you to bore between 250 to 350 rings per hour. You never have to turn the drill press off and you don't have to hold anything with your hands/fingers.

I don't know if the clamp on the buy/sell page is one of mine or not, but you can see photos on Andy's website if you want to know exactly what you're looking at.

Yes, the clamp on the buy/sell page is based on my original design. If the seller did a good job constructing it, you'll be amazed at how useful it is.

I built one of Tom's clamps from the plans in Rodmaker. It's got to be one of the slickest and neatest tools you'll ever use. Especially if you're interested in keeping your fingers!!! If this guy has built his correctly and he'll let it go for $10 then you'd be smart to jump all over it. There not hard to make but I wouldn't spend an hour of my time making one for $10. That's way cheap. I'd jump on it if I didn't already have one. Make sure it has a good spring on the main clamp rod. I couldn't tell from the photo if there was one there or not.

That issue has plans and the full actual sized template along with a parts list. It's a great tool. I use mine quite often.

I understand that I can order the backissue, my problem is that I am disabled and have no income (disability is in the appeal stage) therfore I can't buy the magazine. If someone would be so kind as to scan and email me the article, I would be grateful.
