Reel Seat Replacement?????

I've been asked by a friend to repair the reel seat that has come unglued on his one piece boat rod.
I've tried drilling a series of small holes in the seat and injecting two part epoxy glue, but there seems to be so much masking tape packing that there is not room for enough glue to do the job. Do I really have to get involved with stripping off all of the guides and fore grip of etc. etc. or does anyone out there have any bright ideas for an easy, but permanent fix for this problem? Is there something that I can use that will eat away the tape without damaging the blank? I thought I'd ask before I start stripping the rod down at the weekend. Many thanks Andy Re: Reel Seat Replacement?????

If the seat is large enough to fit over the butt of the blank it may be easier to remove the rear grip and work from that end.Are the grips EVA or cork?See above post for tips on the grip end of the project.I would use drywall tape(mesh type) for a bushing however to eliminate a repeat failure. Cut the reelseat in half at 90 degrees to the blank. Remove both halves and clean blank. Find a scrap piece of blank to use as a sleeve that will fit snuggly over both blank pieces. Glue the reel seat on the scrap piece. The next day glue the sleeve to the blank sections.
Some builders put a scrap piece inside the blank sections also. If the blank has very little taper, a piece of aluminum tubing can be used as a sleeve. This has been discussed before. Try using the search section and the FAQ section. Also reading the Ralph O'Quinn rod repair article would be helpful. Re: Reel Seat Replacement?????
