Silk vs nylon wraps - absorb finish differently?

On my previous Sage XP rod I used Gudebrod 340 Antique Gold with no CP on my wraps however I wouldn't say my wraps are blotchy looking but the coloration was just not perfectly uniform - but they still looked nice. Since I constantly pack my threads rather tighly after a few turns, I was wondering if that could cause the wrap to soak the epoxy a bit uneven?

I found a spool of Silk Antique Gold I had and I think I color tested it once without CP and I believe it came out rather dark as compared to the nylon thread.

So, does silk absorb finish differently than nylon and would looser nylon wraps absorb finish a bit more evenly? Thanks.

this is really subjective on my part but my impression is that fine silk goes more transparent than nylon, especially when i use varnish. i have used both silk and nylon. in fact i am doing the current rod project in gold silk on a honey colored blank. it almost disappears it is so translucent.

I've used silk on and off, but I generally avoid it like the plague. I can't stand that stuff. I haven't used enough of it to know what is going to happen when I put on finish. I just used some green silk on a green/blue blank without CP and it turned black. In very bright sunlight, at just the right angles, I can detect a few specks of what resembles green, but I think that's cuz I'm trying to see it.

HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE: I use silk exclusively on bamboo rods - never on dark graphite/fiberglass rods. I think of silk as "warmer" and nylon as "colder" or "harsher" (more vivid colors). On Bamboo, likely because the blank underneath is light colored the silk doesn't go as dark - but yes, it does generally darken or become more transparent than nylon - with and without CP.

yes, light colored blanks make wrapping and finishing experts out of all of us!
