Weaving letters

I am having some problems with the weave thread (A) getting buried under the background thread (D). No matter what I do, I don't seem to be able to get the quality as I have seen in photos, or especially on the cover of the new Rod Maker mag. Portions of a letter are fine and another part is really terrible. I've been using the info from Clemens book. Any and all suggestions are greatly welcomed. Thank you

I would use size A thread for both threads, You may have too much tension on the design thread.
Hope this helps
Chuck

Hi, As I mentioned to you via email, the Rodmaker logo weave was done in all Gudebrod A thread, black nylon for the turning thread and HT metallic and nylon for the weave threads.
Most recent pic I posted, the Crystal Pier Charter 2004 was also done in all A thread, black nylon, HT gold and silver metallic.
If I can be of further help, don't hesitate to email me questions.

Hi,

I just finished a weave using A nylon for the wrapping thread and HT metallic for the pattern threads. It didn't work out very well - the metallics wanted to "split" the turns of the wrapping thread and I ended up with lots of gaps. Should I have used more tension on the wrapping thread?

I did a 2nd weave using flat holographic tape for the pattern threads and it turned out really well.

Regards
Dave Boyle

Jim,
You need to go into your "Control Panel" and E-mail settings and click on confirm e-mail address. Until you do that, it shows youe e-mail address as hidden

Stan; Using a thread as large a "D" for your wrapping thread with "A" for the design will for sure bury single overlays of the design thread. You will do better to use "A" over "B" or "C". I use from 6 to 8 ounces of tension on the wrapping thread. The other thing you want to be aware of is that you are going to be better off with your design thread crossing over at least two wraps of the wrapping thread instead of just once. The other thing is using letters of sufficient size to allow the detail you want. Some fonts will allow small letters and others will not. Let me know if you need more help....

How big or small are you trying to make your letters? I use A thread for wrapping and D metallic thread for the desgins and never had a problem. Try going slowly and keeping even tension as much as possible. No need to pull hard or anything. Oh, and anytime you use more fifty design threads, those table mounted magnifying glasses are worth their weight in gold and sore eyeballs!
