Good Morning all,
I have two clients who want their inscription in metaalic inks (one gold and one in silver. I have tried both the pental metallic ink pens and Speedball Metallic inks applied with a metal quill pen. Even whn covered with three coatings of color preserver (U-40 Color Lock Flex Coat, Classic Rod Coat), I the inks run when I apply Perma Gloss rod coat. In contrast, when I use blue or red Speedball inks with the color preservers, the inks do not run. If any of you use metallic inks with Perma Gloss and have solved this problem, would you let me know your solution? I had promised that these rods would be finished by Christmas, and I am finished except for the inscription. Many thanks, Mike Blomme Re: Metallic Inks

I use the jel pens. I dry with a hair drier then put clear coat on. Have not used permagloss. Sounds like the permagloss is to hot?? Re: Metallic Inks

For gold I use "gold leaf" ink from a company called Sheffield Bronze Paint Corporation with a product name "Superlite" I got it at a Glidden paint store - but I imagine you could also find it at a craft store like Michaels. I use a metal quill pen to write (scribble in my case) on 'scuffed' blank surface. I've never had a problem with this paint running or smearing -- just allow it to dry 30 mintues. Re: Metallic Inks

Try a coat of Krylon clear laquer over those inks you're using. Works for me; spray it on with the edges masked off outdoors.

Try oil-based metallic paint found at hobby stores with a very fine nibbed pen (also found at hobby stores) that you dip into the paint like old-fashioned ink writing pens. Doesn't run with any epoxy finish, dries in minutes and can be wiped off with paint thinner.
The pen can clog, so just wipe off tip with a paper towel and re-dip. Re: Metallic Inks

We sell Speedball ink. We have seen this problem with Permaglos. The thinner in the Permaglos seems to cause the ink to smear. We recommend using a one part thread sealer made by Gudebrod or Flexcoat seems to work well.
