I recently purchased a PacBay rodsmith rod wrapper and I replaced the small o-rings but now I am getting marks on my blanks where the rod is in contact with the o-rings. The marks do not wipe off. Any suggestions on how to get the marks off or how to prevent it from happening in the first place? Thanks!

You can place tape around the blank where it contacts the o-rings, or clean the rings with some alcohol. They shouldn't leave marks unless you're putting the top support down very tightly and wedging the rod blank in the supports very snugly. You only want light contact with the wheels.

And there is always the chance your's just came with a bad run of 0-rings. You might try replacing them via those you find at the hardware store.

I have not yet had this problem while wrapping, yet. But you will bet marks while the rod is drying so just wrap a piece of masking tape around the blank where the rollers lay. I can only say that you probably have to much pressure on the rollers.

I had the same type problems a few years back, I did not tape the roller areas on a matte blank and the o rings buffed the matte finish.

I would be surprised if denatured alcohol would not remove the stain from wheels. You should inspect the wheels real good to insure that no hard particles have become imbedded which may cut into the finish surface on the blank. The stain from the wheels should only be superficial and should be easily removable without hurting the blank.

I use Simple Green or Goo Gone to remove organic smudges and tape residue from blanks. Test all solvents on blank surface (reel seat area) first to insure no harm no foul. To polish I like Lemon Pledge furniture polish or Starbrite Teflon Boat Polish from West Marine.

If the wheels on the machine are new it might be best to wipe them off real well with the Simple Green or Goo Gone to remove surface stains.

I always place a strip of tape where the O ring comes in contact with the blank. Once when I was putting finish on a blank I got some finish on a roller well after being on the roller all night the finish cut in to the blank.
