Sage 00 wt

Has anyone built or more importantly cast, this rod yet? I have built a couple of the 2 wts and they are really nice casters. Just curious if these 00's will cast more than 20 feet. I hate to pay this much for a blank but these sound pretty intriguing.

Thanks

Jeff Hunter

Hi,

I've cast one. A fly shop here in the Denver, Co. area just had a big holiday celebration and had a Sage rep. at the shop for a day of casting and give aways. I was prety intrigued by that rod so I spent a good half hour talking with the rep and casting it.

I've only been flyfishing for about 6 months and I've never had any casting lessons (aside from the internet) and I had no trouble getting nearly 60 feet of line out, with excelent loops. As for picking up line, I found it a little weak at more than about 40 feet. But it was very sweet and smooth, and had a surprising amount of backbone in such a small rod. I would feel prety comfortable fishing it all over Rocky Mountain National Park.

Very cool little rod overall, although I'm sure your choices of lines for it may be a little limited.

I've not cast it, but it would make a nice project. The factory Sage is built out on the heavy side. You might try Dan Craft to see if he has an 8' 0 weight about. If not, I have an extra 6'10 D.C. blank if you are interested. I like 0 weight and 00 weight rods, but you are on the margin in terms of "feel". I find that much under 8 feet and you miss the feel of the tip moving, "swing weight"? The only lines available are from the Quiet Tapers from Sage. My Dan Craft 8'0 casts 35 feet with a 00 line. It would likely do better with a WF 0. After 35 feet, it kind of puddles in front.
