I just acquired a 7'6" 4# bamboo rod. The cork and seat are already on it so I need to wrap the guides and finish the rod. My question: what do you use on the wraps? Flex coat? Do you varnish the rod when it is done, or before you wrap the guides? Any info, including sites to visit would be appreciated. Re: Finishing a bamboo rod...

I use Spar varnish on wraps, if I want the transparent look, I put a coat of 50/50 varnish then 2 coats full strength and then I dip rod 2-4 times.. This is my process if you have anymore questions email me. Thanks Dave's Rods Re: Finishing a bamboo rod...

Ron, Russ Gooding wrote a 2-part series on finishing cane and wraps in recent issues of RodMaker. Volume 4 - #4 and #5 have all the details, right down to how to fashion your own dip tank. Many builders actually wrap first and then dip finish the entire assembly. Russ goes into great detail on all the ins and outs of these procedures. ..................
