I would like to know the proper method of inlaying feathers on wood foregrips that I make. What is the adhesive to use and still retain the natural look of the feather? Re: inlay feathers

Most people use color preserver for inlaying them on the blank or wraps and maybe that would also work on grip materials. Re: inlay feathers

Rod, It would be difficult to use other than a liquid like color preserver to lay out the feathers. On wood you might try first a coat of finish over the wood for a smooth base, and then work on the feather as if laying it on the blank with a color preserver. Then finish over this. rotate the foregrip.... Rich Solyrich Custom Rods Re: inlay feathers

Some feathers just don't retain original appearance when coated with a finish. For example, the irridescence of peacock feathers disappears when coated with either CP or epoxy. Fortunately, most feathers do just fine. I went to a fly shop, bought a couple of skins and started experimenting. Those skins will probably last me a lifetime! By the way, when you develop some confidence you can skip the CP and apply them with epoxy. Super glue is also helpful if you are trying to combine 2 or more feathers in a particular way before applying them to the rod. Re: inlay feathers

Thanks for the replies. Being new t thisforum didn't realize I could go back and search for past topics. After doing so, I have obtained all the info I need. Thanks again, Rod Re: inlay feathers

Leon brings up a good point if want to use irridescent feathers (other feathers work nice too) and the finish perhaps causing the irridescence to disappear. Also, on a blank the feather might be placed on an underwrap for effect which would be another consideration that might be difficult to duplicat on a wood foregrip. Having said this, I have made grooves or wound thread on parts of a wood handle with a finish to give a desired matching color. I couldn't see why a well placed underwrap, one could feather inlay over that and properly finish it?? just a thought. Rich Soyrich Custom Rods Re: inlay feathers

I use clear finger-nail polish. It dries faster than CP and no conflicts with Flex-Coat.Cheap too. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
