Boy I did it this time!! I placed a fish decal ( square decal purchased from Cabela's) on a rod I built my Dad for xmas. I was concerned with the square corners of the decal being seen after cp and epoxy had been applied. What I didn't realize is that you have to peel off the top layer of the decal after you apply it. Needless to say I went over the whole thing with the epoxy. Although it doesn't look that bad I now know better and would like to fix it. Is it possible to remove the epoxy that covers the decal, replace it with a new one and reapply the flex coat? what do you think my chances of suceess would be?
Soory for the book!! Thanks Bart Re: Decal Mess Up

Flex Coat doesn't adhere to the blank very well, so you should be able to remove it, but you will have to be very careful. Use a razor knife to slice into the epoxy right over the label, being very careful not to cut into the blank. Once you can lift up part of the epoxy, you should be able to peel off most of it. Then use can use edge of a credit card to scrape off whatever remains, or try scrubbing with denatured alcohol.
Good luck Re: Decal Mess Up

I just goofed up a waterslide decal the other night; tried to put four of them on a rod out of the same bowl of distilled water. The fourth one, after finish was put on, turned cloudy underneath from contamination of glue in the distilled water.
I sliced the area of the decal and with magnifying glasses on, picked at the edges with by nails and got the old finish and decal off. I cleaned the area with alcohol, lightly scuffed it with scotchbrite, applied the new decal and then rod finish. Can't even tell that it wasn't put in with the first coat. Re: Decal Mess Up

You can replace the decal-like Putter said.
I mispelled a guys name ( DUH !!!!) on a rod last year. ( I put Chido..should have been Chiodo). I GENTLY heated the decal area with a bic lighter to soften the finish & scraped the finish off with my thumbnail. I got down to the decal & removed it. Then, I simply re-applied the correct decal, & applied the finish to the area. All looked great. ...Not near the 'disaster' that I was expecting. Re: Decal Mess Up

Harve , I'm sure glad I'm not the only one that has misspelled a name. The only thing I had going for me was I found out before epoxy . John Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
