Surf Rod Stripper Guide

I am currently building a 10' 2 piece surf rod.. in laying out the guide spacing i found the #50 stripper guide have to be located on or near the ferrule. Will this be a problem and can i do anything else if it is. Also I have already wrapped the ferrule area with A thread, can i go out to test cast the rod without duing any damage to the rod or should i put CP or finish over the wraps so i don't damage to the rod.
Thanks for your help Rick

The thread over the ferrule is actually tighter without CP or finish, which will cause it to expand. We need to do some tests on this - how much tension and actual protection finished thread provides. I'd almost think the total package of thread encapsulated in the epoxy is the defining factor here. Will have to do something on it at some point.

You aren't likely to hurt the rod test casting it with a very snug wrap of A thread.

If your tests determine that the guide needs to go on the ferrule, then so be it. Won't hurt a thing.
