Never posted here but i build rods for a living. Just wanted to share a little trick i learned on my own. I use small zip ties to hold my guides in place. To me i just works better than tape our tubeing.

John,
I do the same. I never did like using tape.

Rubber bands tied onto the blank work for me

What do you use to cut the zip ties? Always willing to try something different but the small ties that I have used are rather tough to cut unless using snips and I would be afraid to use those around my blank with my clumsy hands.

ROB, i use a pair of diagonal cutting pliers. i cut the little block where the ties go together. the zip tie just pops off. i have never hurt a blank this way. if you cut with the jaws perpendicular to the blank the cutting process will not tighten the tie (which could put pressure on the blank) and it just pops off. try this on a scrap and you will see what i mean. you want to use nice sharp "dikes" and it will slice right through the tie junction block with little effort.

The zip ties are good on the bigger blanks , but I've become a fan of the Flex Coat guide adheasive as of late for the smaller fly rod single foot guides. John

John-

When using the flex coat guide adhesive, are you able to reposition the guide after you get a few wraps up the foot? Or is it imperative to get the alignment straight out of the gate?

Thanks,
Domenic
