What's the conventional wisdom on single foot versus snake guides for fly rods? Single foot obviously make wrapping twice as fast, but do they, or the blank, hold up as well under heavy stress? Thanks in advance, Kitty Re: Single foot v. snake guides

Yes, they hold up just as well. The advantage of the snake guide is that it performs adequately and at very little cost. The advantage of the single foot ceramic guide, is no grooving or wearing, half the wraps, and perhaps a bit better all around performance. But they do cost considerably more. I have used single foot ceramics (Fuji SG and TSG) on hundreds and hundreds of heavy fly rods. Some in the catagory of 17 weight models. The guides have done just fine on everything from albacore to marlin to tuna. The Forhan Locking Wrap is a good bet for ensuring the guides stay put during rough handling by anglers. ...............
