I want to build a 9 ft. 10 Wt. graphite fly rod for fishing saltwater surf. I would like to use Fuji SIC guides. What size guides would you recommend?

Barry, a rod with a #8 tip, seven #8 and one #10 single foot guides, followed by one #12 and one #16 two foot guides would be a versatile rod. You may prefer to use a #20 stripping guide. You might consider the taller spinning guides as strippers. The #8's will allow a multi-tip line to pass. If the rod will be fished only with a sinking line, which has only the leader butt knot and is verry small in diameter, I would drop to #7 single foot guides, but stick with the #8 tip. I am building an RPLXi 11/12 weight for Dorado with six #7, one each #8 and #10 single foot TSG guides, then #12 and #16 two foot TNSG guides. The last #7 is on the female ferrule of the tip section, and to maintain a straight line through the guides I increase to the #8 instead of staying with the #7.

Barry , Dan has given you exelent advice , that is exectly the way my 10 wt is set up , though I stayed with a # 16 as the largest stripper . I also used # 8 rinners as I use shooting head systems on occasion.
