How does a self-adjusting chuck from flexcoat work? Are they suitable for very large butt cap diameters? Are they user friendly? Re: flexcoat self-adjusting chuck

To my knowledge it is a rubber diaphram that simply enlarges and holds the rod butt by friction. Very user friendly of course, although it may not work well on very, very small or very, very large diameter rod butts. ........... Re: flexcoat self-adjusting chuck

[www.cabelas.com] If you can find one like this design, I've done very small UL trout rods and huge surf rods with this. Surf the pix, you can find one you can built with simple wood screws and a PVC endcap for about $1.00 US. Re: flexcoat self-adjusting chuck

Jason, Tom is basically correct. However you can make several of the rubber diaphrams with varying size holes to cover anything from a very large butt diameter to small tip sections of blanks. They are very easy and inexpensive to build. I find them so convienient that I even have one on my rod lathe. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
