Steelhead rod needed (lamiglas XMG?)

Hi Guys and gals,

I'm looking to build a ~9'6" spinning rod for a customer. He wants a fast action, about an 8-10 lb line rating, and a 1/8-1/2 oz lure rating. It also has to be tip light in swing weight. My first thought was the 9'6" Lami XMG rated 6-10 and 1/4 -1/2. My concern was the casting weight. That is a pretty narrow range and I know the rod will handle a wider range than that. The question is whether the range goes higher or lower. I figured it would be a 1/8 - 1/2 range looking at the specs.

Anyone have a first hand account on this blank or something similar?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick,
I have not personally built or fished that XMG blank, but the same model in the Certified Pro will throw a 1/8 oz. on 8 lb line. That said I don't find it particularly fast in action, the blank designed by Bill Herzog that is 10 ft and the same weight class looks faster to me and is rated to 1/8 oz. The blank is the XSH1202ML. Also weighs the same as the 9 1/2 ft blank.
